Following the High Court ruling against the Isle of Wight Council for their changes to adult social care, the issue will be under discussion at the council next week.
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee will be meeting on 8th December at 5pm (members of the public welcome) to discuss amongst other things the impact of the Adult Social Care Judicial Review and considering the actions being undertaken arising from this.
At the last full council meeting, members of the public and councillors requested the full legal costs of the Judicial Review. The fact that the council had said the changes to the Adult Social Care policy was going to save £1.1m and ended up saving just £54,000 was also raised.
“Stooges Committee”
All eyes will be on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, after Cllr Lumley (Labour) dubbed it the Stooges Committee at the last full council meeting, saying it was allowing the Cabinet and administration to get away with murder. He called for the chair to resign, saying, “they’re abusing you.”
The ‘stooges’ moniker was refuted by Chairman, Cllr Whittle (Independent) who said he was working with what he had and trying to improve things, “you’ve got a lot to say about the game, for a player who walked off the pitch.”
Other items
Also for consideration will be the updated budget position and Rate Support Grant.
In addition, the Quarter Two Performance Report, the Forward Plan and members question time will all be covered.
The meeting takes place on Thursday 8th December at 5pm. Members of the public welcome to attend.
