High praise for ‘Outstanding’ Isle of Wight school

Thanks to Susan for sharing this great news from St Catherine’s School, Ventnor. Ed

St Catherine’s School, Ventnor is celebrating its latest Ofsted Care report which highly praised its work with children and young people from across the UK – all of whom have severe and lifelong speech, language and communication disabilities.

Following a three-day Ofsted inspection at three hours notice in early December, the overall residential experiences and progress of children and young people at St Catherine’s were judged to be outstanding in the three areas reviewed.

The quality of care and support are outstanding. How well children and young people are protected is outstanding. The impact and effectiveness of leaders and managers is outstanding. Ofsted gave no recommendations for improvements to practice.

Students flourish in the development
As the inspectors noted, “Students are cared for by a range of skilled professionals… They make excellent progress across all areas of their lives. They flourish in the development of their communication, self-esteem, confidence and independence”.

The inspectors continued, “Staff are motivated and dedicated to meet all the individual needs of the students they care for…The care provided is top class”.

Dr Brendan Carleton, Principal of St Catherine’s said,

“We are delighted with the result of this Ofsted inspection, which is a great testament to the excellent teamwork and dedicated staff here at St Catherine’s.

“I would like to thank everyone – staff, governors, students and parents – for their continued commitment towards our ultimate goal of supporting students with speech, language and communication needs to reach their full potential.”
