As we reported last week, as part of the forthcoming Highways PFI project, a proposal was being considered to replace traditional sodium bulb streetlamps with LED models.
A delegated decision has been made by Cllr Edward Giles today to go ahead with the proposal “that as part of the Highways Private Finance Initiative (PFI) a dimming and trimming regime be implemented”.
The reasons for the decision are
- To support the ‘Thriving Island’ Eco Island theme and the specific priority to ‘create wealth whilst reducing our carbon footprint’.
- To assist in the achievement of the Eco Island ambition of ‘the Island having the lowest carbon footprint in England by 2020.
- To achieve up to a 65 per cent reduction in energy costs.
Call-in for the decision expires at 5pm on 6 April 2011.
