Isle of Wight artist Hilary Thorpe, has achieved a reputation across the Island and the South Coast for her popular paintings of yacht racing and coastal scenes.
In this her 19th solo exhibition in Cowes she is show has a variety of local pieces painted on location, right in the heat of the action.
You will often see her painting on Cowes sea front when the yachting events are on, often spotted with her camper van with her name and website blazoned on the side.
“I love the challenge”
Says Hilary “I love the challenge of capturing the racing boats as they sail past. I work quickly with a palette knife and work pencil sketches which I use to finish the painting whilst it is still fresh in my mind.”
If you see her exhibition I think you will agree she certainly captures the activity of the sea!
Much of her work is based on the Isle of Wight where she lives in Cowes. She also ventures further a field and this show will also have a selection of work from the west coast of Scotland and the east coast of the States
Where and when
The exhibition is being held at Regatta House in Cowes and runs daily until 9th October. Events On The Wight for full details of the event.
