Hilda, a standard black Schnauzer, went missing from Forelands Beach, Bembridge on Friday 8th January.
There have been possible sightings at Forelands Beach and Rosemary Vineyard, Smallbrook, but her owners are desperate for her to come home.
If you spot Hilda (read the advice from her owner below) please call Mandy on 07800 768364 or 07875 746 988 asap.
She may be in survival mode
Dogs who have been running free for a while often tend to go into survival mode – which means a dog that might normally be very friendly, can seem quite fearful and not want to be approached.
If you see Hilda try and remain calm and not look at her – maybe even walk away a little.
If possible ring her owners ASAP – she needs to hear familiar voices. Contact Mandy on 07800 768364 or 07875 746 988.
Getting her to approach you
If that’s not possible, try standing or sitting with your back to her and throw treats towards her, without eye contact. Ignore her, but make a big issue about shaking treats on the floor.
We really need her to come to us, rather than us trying to approach her. It’s hard to know how she will react, so a calm and quiet approach with very little eye contact is important until a lead can be put on her.
If she’s at a distance, then shaking treats to encourage her and maybe soft calling will work. But if she’s spotted running over a hill or through woods, then shout to get her attention, but then immediately go back to quiet calmness again.
Hilda’s owners are desperate for her return. Please keep your eyes peeled.
