Historic East Dene estate in Bonchurch goes on sale for £2.5 million

Historic East Dene in Bonchurch has been placed on the market with a price tag of £2,500,000.

The Allnatt residential education centre at East Dene closed its doors in January 2021. Since then, the Coach House was sold off (which was advertised for £1.25m) and then a number of different applications to develop the site were submitted.

These includes a wellness hotel and spa, with holiday lodges in the woodland, then an ‘aparthotel’ with six flats – all applications that attracted strong local objection.

Plans dropped
In December 2023, plans to turn the currently empty Grade II* listed building into an ‘aparthotel’ with six flats were dropped.

New plans
Then in March 2024, the owner, Robert Camping from Wonder House Group, submitted an application to return East Dene into a single house with guest and staff accommodation.

Having stayed at East Dene several times on meditation retreats, its scale and grandeur never failed to impress.
