Earlier this month saw the excellent Homegrown exhibition return to Ryde.
Homegrown II, curated by Island artist Lauren Fry, the week-long exhibition, part of the Ryde Arts Festival, ended with a rather jolly bash on the Saturday night at The Depozitory, giving a chance to see the work of the artists who had been working all week creating the installation in the cellar.
It was made all the more jolly by the generous support of three Island businesses.
Wines of Uruguay
Carla from Wines of Uruguay, who are based in Merston, was particularly generous, donating 20 bottles of wine for the event. These delicious wines were very much appreciated by the guests, many of whom were interested in finding out where they could get their hands on more.
Currently the wines are not available in any shops on the Island, but you can buy these hand-produced wines online through the Wines of Uruguay Website or around 20 Island restaurants.
Goddards Brewery
Thanks also go out to Anthony Goddard of Goddards Brewery, whose fine Fuggle Dee Dum bitter went down well with quality ale fans.
We’re big fans of Goddards bitters so were really chuffed when they agreed to donate a couple of cases of the popular bitter for the end of show party.
Isle of Wight Cheese
Finally, a very cheesy (heartfelt) thanks to Richard from Isle of Wight Cheese, who was once again hugely generous with offerings of Isle of Wight Blue, Soft and Gallybagger. (He’d also supported the 2008 VentnorBlog Presents … event)
All the cheeses went down a storm (no surprise there then) with many people trying them for the first time and becoming instantly hooked!
Mutual support
The exhibition was produced on a shoe-string so the generous donations by these three Island businesses were all the more appreciated.
If you have an opportunity to support them in return – please take it – and we’ll keep this wonderful ‘helping each other out’ thing going round.
Interview with the curator
We caught up with Lauren at the beginning of the exhibition for a chat (listen to podcast).
