He was at a union meeting in Portsmouth on Thursday.
Don’t worry, it was Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA.
We’re talking of course about the US presidential candidate, Donald Trump, who has declared the US should block entry to all Muslims on security grounds, also claiming that Muslims have made some parts of London into no-go areas.
Applying the ‘unacceptable behaviour’ criteria
In response, over half a million Brits have signed a petition to block Donald Trump entry to the country.
The petition reads,
The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK.
If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the ‘unacceptable behaviour’ criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.
According to The Telegraph, the number of signatures in such a short space of time had made this petition a record-breaker. What could be seen as a petition along the same lines as Donald Trump’s intentions, Stop all immigration and close the UK borders until ISIS is defeated, has been running for the last three months, but not reached the same numbers.
How many Islanders have signed?
A brilliant map produced by the team at Unboxed allows you to see just how many people from specific parts of the UK have voted on the petition.
At time of publishing, 875 residents from the Isle of Wight had signed the petition and the total number of signatures was a staggering 556,309.
The Block Donald Trump from UK entry petition can be found on the Government’s official petitions Website.
Petition to close borders to immigrants
Back in September 2015, a petition to close the UK borders to all immigrants until ISIS is defeated was created.
That petition has taken three months to reach 452,667 signatures, of which 841 are from the Isle of Wight.
