Iconic Isle of Wight landmarks to shine orange for National Grief Awareness Week

In a moving display of solidarity and remembrance, Appuldurcombe House in Wroxall and the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes will light up in orange.

This event, scheduled for Friday 8th December, aims to mark the final night of National Grief Awareness Week.

From 4.30pm to 7.30pm, these iconic landmarks will join other monuments across the country in this poignant gesture.

A beacon of support for the grieving
The illumination serves a noble cause, supporting The Good Grief Trust. This charity, notable for its extensive network, brings together over 900 organisations dedicated to aiding those dealing with grief and bereavement.

By casting their lights in orange, Appuldurcombe House and the Royal Yacht Squadron not only raise awareness, but also show their support for those mourning the loss of loved ones.

Gathering in solidarity
Alongside the lighting event, there will be a gathering at Appuldurcombe House. The event promises to be a time of reflection and community support.

At 6pm, attendees will engage in a short talk, followed by a two-minute silence to remember those who have passed.

The evening will continue with the offering of hot drinks and mince pies, providing a warm, communal space for people to connect and find comfort.

A united front in times of loss
The efforts of The Good Grief Trust, along with the support shown by Appuldurcombe House and the Royal Yacht Squadron, underscore a vital message. In times of loss and sorrow, communities can come together to provide support and understanding.

Through events like these, the pain of grief finds a collective expression, offering a beacon of hope and solidarity to those who are mourning.
