Over the next few weeks, millions will see two of the Isle of Wight’s spectacular locations, Military Road and Freshwater Bay.
They are the setting of a new TV commercial starring Idris Elba, for Sky Mobile.
The October shoot was organised by the film office FilmWight which brought in help from Lobster Locations, Wightlink, Crown Park, Island Roads, Island People and The Albion Hotel.
FilmWight also organised temporary road closures, ferry travel, hotels and crew transport.
Bingham: It’s one of the easiest places I’ve found to film
Location Manager Hugo Bingham said he was very impressed with the Island’s professionalism,
“Creatively it was perfect, logistically it was very good, the Island team have been fantastic in helping us get a permit to control the traffic.
“The film office has been incredibly helpful, everything was very easy, it’s one of the easiest places I’ve found to film.”
The nationwide advertisement promotes a January broadband sale, showing how easy it is to switch up to Sky.
Russell: Public safety was ensured
Film Officer, Dave Russell liaised with the crew and said we made it as easy as possible for everyone involved,
“With the production staying at The Albion Hotel in Freshwater, early starts weren’t needed as they were already at the location.
“Military Road was closed less than 15 minutes at a time, so it didn’t impact residents but ensured public safety, which is paramount.”
Attracting attention for the Island
FilmWight recently attracted much interest at Focus, a major film Industry event in London promoting the Island as a filming location.
It is soon to host a series of familiarisation trips to the island for Location Managers and Executive Producers with continued assistance from Wightlink, the cross-Solent ferry operator. The Isle of Wight continues to grow in popularity as a film, TV, and ad location.
Only two hours from London, with the highest number of sunshine hours in the UK, diverse location choices, discounted travel routes and a growing skills base, it’s unsurprising.
