A group of people are due in court today (Friday 14th April) following an investigation into a series of incidents involving imitation firearms on the Isle of Wight.
Police received a number of reports on the evening of 8th August 2022, alleging that the occupants of a vehicle driving around Sandown and Ryde were firing BB gun pellets at members of the public, injuring several people.
Apearing at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court
Officers deployed and stopped a vehicle in the Ryde area, before arresting the four occupants. These four people have since been issued summons to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court as follows:
- A 19-year-old of Whitcombe Road in Newport, will face four charges of possession of an offensive weapon in public (namely 3 fixed blade craft knives and a butterfly knife), and one charge of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
- A 19-year-old of Well Street in Ryde, will face one charge of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and one charge of possession of cannabis.
- An 18-year-old of Weeks Road in Ryde, will face one charge of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and one charge of possession of cannabis.
- A 20-year-old of Marlborough Road in Ryde, will face one charge of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
