IOW Car Club Report: 17 October 2010

Sunday 17th October saw the IOW Car Club return to Knighton Sandpit for round 7 of the 2010/11 season.

IOW Car Club Report: 17 October 2010An unseasonal bright and sunny day meant hardened conditions underfoot and a propensity for dust. The venue had less physical obstructions than it has had before meaning a larger course could be laid out giving competitors more time in the seat.

As always Andy Williams set the time to beat 1:14.91, driving his GSXR engine special around the sometimes tight and other times flowing circuit. Alas this also turned out to be his best time of the day
as mechanical failures pestered him throughout the remainder.

Dan Morgan, terrifically and technically fast, as ever recorded a time of 1:14.07 which for a long period during the day looked like it would not be beaten. As the course dried up to dust and the sand became rutted akin to a Scalextric slotted track times began to tumble.

The Leppard brothers in their 205GTi were driving particularly well.

IOW Car Club Report: 17 October 2010Andrew Leppard drove an astonishing 1:11.22 to top the leaderboard and his brother an equally credible 1:12.36. Never one to lay down and die Dan Morgan drove a very impressive 1:10.96 which would go on to be the eventual winning time, 0.26 seconds ahead of the chasing pack.

Rebecca French disheartened after seeing her Boyfriend bend the wishbone on their car was offered a drive in the WWC Golf which not only elevated her mood but her standings as well. Driving with aplomb
she recorded a 1:13.32 leaving her in fifth place on the day.

Driver of the day is a hard one to call but I feel it has to go to Andrew Leppard for steering his 205Gti to 2nd place. Well done to Dan Morgan for another victory, I caught up with him before he left and asked him if he had anything to say, he replied “it’s been another good day for us today with the car performing really well.

IOW Car Club Report: 17 October 2010We’re at the half way point in the championship now and everything is looking good. I’m sure there will be a strong challenge when we return to the sealed surface venues, but i’m ready for it.”
