A Letter to the Editor published yesterday through OnTheWight has resulted in Island Roads having to admit an error was made when resurfacing a road in Shanklin.
Shanklin resident David Moorse pointed out that when the road was recently resurfaced, it was laid flush to the original kerb height, resulting in any water flowing down the road (from the fire station opposite or heavy rain), heading straight into residents’ properties.
Should have maintained the original kerb height
OnTheWight raised David’s concerns with Island Roads yesterday and they have this morning responded.
Keith Gourlay, Construction Manager said,
“The surfacing work undertaken in Hyde Road should have maintained the original kerb height. We have alerted the Eurovia surfacing teams and have asked them to carry out remedial works as soon as possible. Eurovia Surfacing will be on site this morning to start that process.
“We apologise to residents affected and thank them for their patience whilst this work is completed.”
It’s great to know that OnTheWight readers are able to provide quality control help to PFI contractor, Island Roads, who’re receiving £1.44m each month.
