News reaches us today of a fantastic initiative dreamed up by the Chlamydia Screening team which has managed to engage teenagers around the Island in the importance of chlamydia screening.
Readers may remember the articles and podcasts published on VB over the last year promoting the chlamydia screening programme.
Well, we hear that four groups of teenagers were tasked with designing window displays in four Boots pharmacies (Ryde, Shanklin, Ventnor and Newport) to highlight the free confidential testing service available.
The teens, all from the Connexions’ Young Peoples Committee did an amazing job and the winners, Nat, Becca and Chloe for their Shanklin Boots display, were presented with tickets to Bestival 2009 by Island band, The Majortones.
Tina Parsonage, Deputy Manager at Boots, Shanklin said: “We are very surprised and pleased to have won the best display, thanks to the girls from Connexions.
“A lot of interest has been shown by the old and the young which is great and it really has broken down some barriers in getting young people to discuss issues such as Chlamydia which they may have not wanted to discuss in the past.”
The displays will remain in place for four weeks, so do go along and check them out.
