The 11am ferry from Yarmouth to Lymington on Saturday 10th December is fully booked for both foot passengers and cars.
Steve Baker, the Squire of Mr Baker’s Dozen Morris Dancers, explains that this ferry is highly popular with those who wish to visit Lymington’s Christmas Market.
Wightlink confirmed to Steve that the 11am crossing was completely booked and that the only options for his group were the crossing before (8.45am) and after (1pm).
Steve was told the ferry’s reduced capacity is due to a dangerous cargo, likely a fuel tanker, he says, which has taken up space on the ferry.
Baker: Many will turn up ‘on spec’
Steve told News OnTheWight he suspects there will be many people showing up to take the 11am ferry ‘on spec’, only to be disappointed when they find out that the ferry is already full.
He added that this news is especially concerning for Mr Baker’s Dozen, a group of Morris Dancers who typically dance around Lymington before Christmas.
Heading to Ventnor instead
Due to the ferry issue, the group has moved their performance to Ventnor for their Christmas Community Day event.
There’ll be lots going on all day including a Christmas Market at the Winter Gardens, live music in Spring Hill, a lantern parade, carols in the park and more.
