People from across the South East have been recognised for their selfless services to others this New Year, including two people who live on the Isle of Wight and one who works here.
The King’s New Year Honours List includes recipients who have made exceptional contributions to their local communities and the country as a whole.
This year, 192 people in the South East received honours, which is over 14 per cent of the total number of recipients. The South East receives the second highest number of honours in the UK, second to London.
Medallists of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) are being awarded to Diana O’Grady for services to the community in Arreton, as well as to Dean Terrett from East Cowes for services to Search and Rescue on the Isle of Wight.
King’s Ambulance Service Medal
Louise Walker, Head of Education, Training and Engagement for the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, was awarded the King’s Ambulance Service Medal (KAM) for distinguished service.
Louise said,
“To receive this award is such a privilege and I feel extremely humbled.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this team who work so hard, I do a job I love and work with the most wonderful people. It’s all for the community we live and work in, and for the island that I grew up on and I love.”
MBE for services to Wildlife and the Natural Environment
Although based in Eastleigh, Hampshire, Debbie Tann is the Chief Executive of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and receives an MBE for services to Wildlife and the Natural Environment.
Debbie said,
“I am beyond grateful for this wonderful award which reflects just what a brilliant team of staff, trustees, volunteers, members and supporters I have at the Trust. My lifelong passion for nature drives my determination to do all I can to protect wildlife and restore it to health.
“Sadly, the UK has become one of the most nature depleted countries in the world and our biodiversity is in serious trouble, but through the incredible work of my dedicated and passionate team we are helping wildlife to bounce back across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
Well done everyone, keep up the great work.
