Broadcaster and travel writer Stuart Maconie will be performing on Friday 19 April, the opening evening of the Isle of Arts Festival, in a show that tells some of the stories behind his twin passions – music and fell walking.

Those of you who only know Stuart from his long-running Radcliffe and Maconie Show on BBC Radio 2 will be delighted with his extraordinary journey and his traveller tales that quickly become more gripping than you image.

A muso that the musos listen to
He hosts The Freak Zone on BBC 6Music on Sunday afternoons and has written and presented dozens of other shows on BBC Radio. He is also one of the UK’s best-selling travel writers.

His work has been compared with Bill Bryson, Alan Bennett and John Peel and described by The Times as a “National Treasure”.

Fleur de Paris
Elsewhere on Friday evening, Fleur de Paris will be celebrating the chansons and swing from 30’s to 50’s Paris.

Their music is as French as the band’s name and they evoke the dimly-lit cafés and humid dance halls of Montmartre and Pigalle, as well as the bohemian left-bank cabarets of Montparnasse and St Germain-Des-Prés.

Fleur de Paris’ arrangements of classic chanson and French singers, including Edith Piaf, Lucienne Delyle and Charles Trenet, plus a touch of Django’s Hot Club de France, capture a golden age of orchestral magic and smooth cinematic jazz.

Chanteuse Lo Polidoro leads Fleur de Paris. Born in a village near Lyon, France, Lo has been singing and performing since childhood. Her voice, full of joy and drama, brings to life the songs in a way that will elegantly transport you. She is accompanied by her husband Nigel Broderick on piano accordion, Kirsten Hammond on violin, Martin Brown.

Tickets will be available soon. For more info see the Isle of Arts Website.
