The sizeable field also featured ten athletes finishing below twenty minutes, showing it was quality and quality.
Men’s winners
The first three runners home came from three different Island athletic clubs with Aaron Mcgrath from Isle of Wight Road Runners taking the title with a superb run of 17:03.
He finished well ahead of second and third, which featured an excellent battle between Wight Tri’s Sean Williams and Adam Tuck of Ryde Harriers. Sean just pipped Adam as both posted personal bests of 17:25 and 17:25 receptively.
Women’s and Vet’s races
The women’s race was also a tightly fought contest, this time for the top spot with IWRR Judy Mccabe (20:51) holding off the challenge of Julie King (20:59) from Ryde Harriers.
The veteran prizes went to Judy Mccabe (Vet 35), Sean Williams (Vet 40), Julie King (Vet 45), Les Cupis (Vet 50), Graham Tuck (Vet 60 and Jonathan Norton (Vet 70).
Dorset invader half marathon
Over the weekend three Ryde Harriers made their way to wilds of Winterbourne to compete in the Dorset invader half marathon.
Abi Cooke was seventh woman home in 1.53.51. Cherry Shannon came next in 2.02.31 and Sally Roberts 2.15.12.
Next meet
Next Tuesday sees the second track championship as Ryde Harriers once again organise the IW 10km championship with a race start time of 7:30pm. Please arrive with plenty of time to register if you wish to take part.
