Island arts for wellbeing charity, Independent Arts have launched their first ever online art auction, an opportunity for supporters to bid on artworks created by Independent Arts participants, through their wide range of programmes across the Isle of Wight.
The online auction features some outstanding work created by participants at the charity’s artist led community workshops and by residents of care and residential homes.
Many pieces in response to Lockdown
Some of the pieces were created by members of the public of all ages, in response to Lockdown and featured in their 2021 Looking Out from Lockdown touring exhibition, instigated by Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon.
The auction will close at 9pm on Monday 28th February and can be accessed online with bids taken online.
Viewings of all auction items can be arranged within the Creative Hub by contacting [email protected]
As well as large statement pieces such as a statue and a large mosaic, the auction offers a range of mediums, artworks of all shapes, sizes and for all budgets.
Musicians of Bremen statue
Lots in the auction include the Musicians of Bremen statue, created by Picture Play, a Saturday morning family learning group for primary aged children and their parents in our creative hub.
The striking statue has been on show in the hub over the last few months, notably in the high street facing window, with many shoppers, families and tourists stopping to enjoy the sculpture.
Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the Musicians of Bremen is a story of unexpected triumph in adversity.
Gagliani: Harnessed the therapeutic power of arts for 35 years
Independent Arts CEO, Lisa Gagliani MBE, said,
“Since the pandemic, many people have turned to the arts in all forms as a distraction – and have found they really enjoy it and have unlocked talent in themselves.
“As a charity, we’ve harnessed the therapeutic power of arts for 35 years and this auction is a fantastic way to tell the story of the people, the artists, who have realised their potential and gained so much in the process.
“Each piece is unique and represents love, companionship and resilience.”
Fundraising to support ongoing activities
The charity hope that the money raised from this auction, alongside our other fundraising activities, will sustain the very workshops that created the work, and help Independent Arts support more Island residents of all ages.
Each lot includes a description, a background story, of the art, the artist and the change arts made to their life.
