With extremely heavy rain wreaking havoc on the stuble field surface which had previously promised smooth and firm driving conditions, it truly was the perfect day to be behind the wheel of a four-wheel drive vehicle, particularly if you had off-road tyres at your disposal.
Sure enough, it was the ever-popular Subaru Impreza that filled the top eight positions, with Adam Morgan (pictured above) on top of the pile, taking both overall and class four honours in the car he also shares with his brothers Dan – who finished third, and Ben – who finished fifth. Ryan Munt and James Robbins came second and fourth respectively in their shared Impreza, while the returning Steve Stotesbury rounded out the overall top six.
Steve Glass (above) was impressive in his Suzuki Swift, taking Class Three victory and the accomplishment of being the only two-wheel drive competitor in the top ten. While Steve finished ninth overall, Sue Mitchell came an equally impressive eleventh in the same Suzuki, handing her the distinction of fastest lady, ahead of Jill Broomfield and Vicky Cox.
Tony Long (below) took the Class Two victory in a Mazda MX5, his first victory since joining the club.
Don’t miss charity event next weekend
The day was ultimately curtailed due to the deteriorating conditions, but this will not be the case next weekend, as the Isle of Wight Car Club teams up with Isle of Wight Stance for a non-championship Gymkhana fundraising event in aid of the Kissy Puppy Charity (see Website for more details).
With the combined driving talents and car collections of the two clubs, this event is one not to miss, whether you intend to spectate or take part!
