The Isle of Wight Car Club held their final round of their MSA Autotest Championship at Knighton Sandpit on Sunday 21st March.
With the previous date at this venue cancelled due to poor weather conditions, competitors prayed for sunshine for the rescheduled event and for once the weather was favourable.
A new course layout and a steep decline past the ‘Lagoon’ meant drivers really had to pit their finest driving skills against very tricky conditions.
Strong competing
With the off road and overall championships going to the wire at the very last round, the day was set to be the most tense of the season.
The competition was close with early pacesetters including Richard Weaver in a borrowed Suzuki Swift and Jimmy Clements in a 4×4 Sierra Estate.
Car sharing was prevalent with five drivers in the Swift and three drivers in each of the Golf’s thus keeping competition close. Dan Morgan once again put in the time to beat as the track dried out in the sun and times began to tumble.
Matt Trott a previous winner at this venue and who was also chasing overall Unsealed (USS) Championship honours laid down the gauntlet with a 51 second run early in the afternoon and his time eventually went on to win the event as other failed to match his pace.

Congratulations must be extended to Jai Nolan, Sealed Surface (SS) Championship winner, Matthew Trott USS Championship winner and to Toby Allen for winning the 2009/2010 Overall Championship which is a combination of both the SS and USS events proving that once again consistency and adaptability are the key.
