A return to Knighton Sandpit is always a welcome treat for the Isle of Wight Car Club, and on Sunday 6th September, the ladies and gents took on one of the most demanding venues of the season yet again.

Unsurprisingly, the surface of sand, dirt and occasional rock suited the 4WD cars, with Subaru Imprezas filling out the top four.

Overall honours for Dan Morgan
It was Dan Morgan who showcased his speed once again, dominating the day’s proceedings to take both Class Four and overall honours with a 1:30.14, some 2.65 seconds clear of Ryan Munt in second.

Adam and Ben Morgan finished third and fourth respectively, while Steve Brett put in a magnificent performance to come home fifth and first in Class Three with his 2WD Mini.

The returning John Dutch took sixth overall and the victory in Class Five, while Class One honours were once again claimed by Ricky Sheppard.

Jill Broomfield was the fastest woman by 0.61 seconds in her VW Golf, just beating Marion Brett with a 1:42.12 on run five. Sue Mitchell had to adapt to new machinery thanks to Steve Glass’s roll in their shared Suzuki last time out – the Toyota Corolla showed some promise, even if Sue almost emulated Steve’s previous performance after running wide late in the day.

Kevin Richardson took Class Two honours in the Mazda MX5 he also shared with his father Barry, and Chris Wilson, who lost his Special for the day after a break down on the first run.
