Isle of Wight community gathers in Ventnor for vigil amid Middle East conflict

This Thursday (17th October 2024) at 5pm a candlelit vigil will be held by local people in Ventnor Park in solidarity and empathy with the people of the war-torn Middle East.

It is very understandable to feel overwhelmed with grief and a sense of powerlessness at this time of horror. It is, however, important to witness, share and never forget.

A time to stay alert, watchful and on guard
The word ‘vigil’ comes from the Roman for ‘awake’. A time to stay alert, watchful and on guard.

There could not be a more relevant moment to come together in true wakefulness.

Hope in the midst of darkness
Candles lit will symbolise hope in the midst of darkness and express a commitment to justice and peace.

It will also represent a mourning for the thousands of people already lost.

Where and when
All are most welcome to gather at the bandstand in Ventnor Park, Park Ave, PO38 1LB from 5pm – 7pm on Thursday 17th October 2024.
