As reported by OnTheWight earlier in the week, the Sunny Oaks renewable energy park and battery storage proposal is back on the table.
In April 2024, Isle of Wight council approved the planning application for a proposed renewable energy park near Wootton. As reported, this decision faced a legal challenge (a judicial review claim), rendering the original permission void.
The applicant has now re-submitted the application for consideration with a number of proposed changes in relation to mitigating fire risks.
IWC: The Isle of Wight council apologises to the applicant and interested parties
A spokesperson for Isle of Wight council said,
“Upon reviewing the challenge, the Local Planning Authority acknowledged that it should have provided the Planning Committee with additional information on fire safety to properly inform their decision. Consequently, the Local Planning Authority agreed to quash the planning permission.
“With the planning permission now quashed, the application is active again and is being re-advertised with the necessary additional information for consultation. After the consultation period ends, the Planning Committee will reconsider the application with all relevant material considerations.
“The Isle of Wight council apologises to the applicant and interested parties for any inconvenience caused. The council confirms that any previously submitted comments on the application will still be considered, so there is no need to resubmit them.”
