Sale of many Isle of Wight council assets to be considered

Despite the latest Forward Plan (details of major decisions being made by the council in the next four months) for the Isle of Wight Council being released last week, an update has already been issued … with a load of new entries.

Many of the new entries are for the ‘possible disposal’ of council assets, with decisions being listed for September’s Cabinet meeting.

Sale of buildings put on hold
Readers will remember the sale of council assets were put on hold when the Island Independents came into power in May.

Although they acknowledged that some assets were surplus to needs, their plan was to no longer sell off assets under Delegated Decision (as had often been the case with the previous Conservative administration), but instead decisions would be made openly, after ‘meaningful’ consultation with relevant town and parish councils.
