Isle of Wight council leader calls for clarity from Government on new flood relief funding

Following the flooding last week Government announced a package of measures that are to be implemented to assist those most affected from the flooding event.

The MP has written in local media about the number of possible grants being made available including Business Rate relief, Council Tax relief and Flood Resilience repair grant schemes.

Jordan: Written to MP and Government
Speaking today Councillor Phil Jordan, Leader of the council has said,

“I welcome the announced grants from Government and the general details about them.

“Residents and business alike in those badly affected areas are anxious and distressed enough already about the disruption and losses they have suffered.

“I have written to the MP asking he contact the Minister for exact and precise details of the announced funding with clear timescales and guidance on how people can access this money.

“We have also written directly to Government asking for immediate details and clarity on how this scheme of grant funding and financial support is going to work and be delivered. ”

Jordan: Still waiting for Government to respond
The council leader went on to say,

“As of today, we are still waiting for Government to respond and advise us of the details of the scheme and funding so that we may get that information out to residents and businesses affected.

“Whilst we are pushing hard for the details from numbers of angles from Government, I would ask that people bear with us a little longer as we await the formal guidance needed for information on the scope of the scheme announced”

More news when received
The council will publish and circulate all details once Government has formally advised them of the scheme implementation.
