A Cowes family has launched a fundraising campaign to help their compassionate, fun-loving 16-year-old son, who has been diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer.
In October, Arlo Lambie started suffering minor headaches, but this quickly spiralled into hydrocephalus, leading to urgent neurosurgery and a diagnosis of a rare type of grade 4 brain tumour.
Daily chemo and radiotherapy
Arlo is now going into Southampton General Hospital every day for radiotherapy and chemotherapy, living near the hospital during the week and coming home at weekends when he can.
A crowdfunding campaign has already raised £35,000, but the family are facing the hardships of not being able to work fully while caring for Arlo, paying for essential treatments not available on the NHS and living away from home.
Moved by support
The family is deeply moved by and immensely grateful for the financial donations and heartfelt messages they have received, but need to raise a lot to access the treatment Arlo needs.
The outpouring of love and support has truly touched their hearts. They are also incredibly thankful for the exceptional care provided by the NHS team, who have been with them every step of the way, and the support of Young Lives vs Cancer, Daisy Chains, Abbey’s Heroes, The Teenage Cancer Trust, Jean’s House and Sophie’s Wish.

Arlo’s dad, Alex, said,
“This was heart-breaking news for Arlo, for us, his younger brother, and our entire family.”

Arlo himself said,
“I don’t want people to be sad. I just want to be happy in the here and now, because that’s all there is.”
Embracing every moment
Arlo is determined to embrace every moment, focusing on the joy of being with friends, enjoying pizza nights, watching films, going to college, and dreaming about the mountains and football matches.
£10,000 covers only one month’s supply of treatment that is not available through the NHS.
As they navigate this challenging journey, they are looking to their local community for continued support.
£1 donation from every Islander
If everyone on the Isle of Wight donated just £1, they could manage the costs and provide Arlo with the care he needs.
Arlo’s school friends are also calling on all Island schools to join in a Wear What Makes You Happy Day on 7th February 2025 – a Mufti Day bringing all Island young people together to support Arlo.
