The Full Council meetings of the local authority, which take place every two months, are a chance for all councillors to come together to vote on motions and ask questions of the ruling administration.
The next meeting, which was scheduled for Wednesday 21st September 2022, has been cancelled following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.
Unable to give five clear days’ notice to lawfully hold the meeting
The council explain,
“The meeting of Full Council scheduled for Wednesday, 21st September, 2022, 6.00 pm has been cancelled, as outside of the official period of national mourning there are insufficient clear days available to give the required five clear days’ notice to lawfully hold the meeting.
“Local authorities are unable to count days of mourning within the period of notice.”
Draft Island Plan
Of the items due to be debated and voted upon, the Draft Island Planning Strategy was perhaps the most contentious.
At last week’s meeting of the Isle of Wight council’s Cabinet, members agreed the current version of the draft Island Planning Strategy with the changes recommended by Corporate Scrutiny Committee.
You can read the details in full on the council’s Website.
As the language of cancelled rather than postponed was used, it’s not yet clear when the full council meeting has been rescheduled for.
