Isle of Wight hosts Sleep Out for Veterans to raise awareness of homelessness

Veterans and supporters on the Isle of Wight are preparing for a Sleep Out for Veterans, an event designed to raise awareness of homelessness among former service personnel.

The sleep out will take place from 12pm on 21st March to 12pm on 22nd March and will highlight the challenges faced by those who have no permanent place to call home.

Sleeping rough to raise awareness
Participants will spend the night outside with nothing more than blankets and cardboard, mirroring the conditions experienced by many homeless veterans.

No tents will be used to ensure the experience reflects the harsh realities faced by those sleeping rough.

Supporting the Veterans Lounge and Hotel
The event is being organised through the Veterans Lounge and The Veteran Hotel, both of which provide support to former military personnel in need.

Anyone wishing to sponsor participants can visit the Veterans Lounge on the High Street or The Veteran Hotel on the Esplanade in Ryde to make a donation.

Live music and community support
On the evening of Friday 21st March, those attending will also have the chance to enjoy live music from Duzz, creating a space for solidarity and reflection.

The event is open to all who want to show their support and stand with veterans facing homelessness.

Donations and participation
Funds raised from the event will go towards initiatives that assist veterans in rebuilding their lives and finding secure accommodation.

Those unable to take part in the sleep out can still contribute by visiting either venue to make a donation.
