The Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend, one of the South Coast’s most popular jazz festivals, returns to Newport between 14th-17th September 2023.
It’s set to showcase the best of the UK jazz scene, along with a selection of local musicians, providing a delightful auditory feast for jazz enthusiasts.
A growing tradition
Starting on a small scale in 2012, the Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend has blossomed into a widely celebrated four-day festival.
It now attracts musicians and audiences from far and wide, reflecting the growing popularity of jazz in the region and beyond.
Headlining acts
This year, festival-goers can expect to enjoy performances from the main acts, including award-winning vocalist Georgia Mancio, legendary jazz guitarist Jim Mullen, and the famous Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
Other notable performers include Australian harpist and vocalist Tara Minton with her trio, a tribute to clarinettist Benny Goodman, and bands led by UK jazz heavyweights Alan Barnes, Simon Spillett, and Mark Nightingale.
Opening night
The event is set to open with a concert by Island-born gypsy jazz guitarist, Sol Grimshaw, and his five-piece band from London.
This initial performance will set the tone for the rest of the festival, promising an exciting blend of traditional and modern jazz stylings.
Local musicians
There will also be a number of Island-based musicians performing in venues around Newport.
