Isle of Wight JSA Claimants Exceeds 4,000

Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that over 4,000 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in February 2012.

Unemployment Figures RiseAccording to the Office for National Statistics, the number of residents claiming Job Seekers Allowance on the Island rose to 4,080 in February 2012.

This is a hike of 116 since January, which showed 3,964 JSA claimants and up 378 from February 2011 (3,702).

4.9% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – over 2 percent more than the rest of the South East (2.8%), and 0.8% more than the whole of the UK (4.1%).
