Following his hugely successful Goldberg Variations in November, Steinway Artist and Ryde resident James Longford returns to the Memorial Hall, Freshwater at 7.30pm on Friday 22nd April with Felicity Broome-Skelton (violin) and Heidi Parsons (cello) – performing as the Galos Piano Trio.
The Galos Piano Trio is a unique group bonded through music-making and friendship that has spanned three decades. Felicity and James grew up on the Island before studying in London at Trinity College of Music and the Royal College of Music.
Passion shines through
The trio’s engaging and entertaining approach has seen them perform across the UK, inspire the next generation of composers and players with workshops in schools, and give hundreds of concerts across the world, and their two albums are available to stream on all major platforms.
James said,
“We are passionate about the piano trio genre, keeping great British music alive and exploring music by women composers.
“We champion the works of Armstrong-Gibbs, Bridge, Stanford, Clara Schumann, Mel Bonis, Johanna Doderer and Dame Ethel Smyth, and have recently made the first recording of Agnes Zimmermann’s Suite for Piano Trio, which we will perform this evening.”
Acclaimed performances
Past highlights include acclaimed performances at the St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Festival, the London Piano Trio Festival and at the bicentenary celebrations of William Sterndale Bennett, England’s sole true Romantic composer, at London’s Conway Hall.
Felicity said,
“After a long break (and two new children!) we are delighted to be performing again on 22nd April, in aid of Dementia UK’s amazing Admiral Nurses right here on the Island.”
They will play:
- Mozart – Trio in C, K548
- Agnes Zimmermann – Suite in d minor, Op.19
- Debussy – Trio in G
- Mendelssohn – Trio no.1 in d minor, Op.49
