“No Limits” Speed Networking
The Isle of Wight Young Chamber held a successful speed networking event for local students at Cowes Yacht Haven yesterday.
The event, entitled “No Limits” was organised by the Isle of Wight Chamber to give local young people an idea of the world of work.
“No Limits” was hosted by Tom Stroud of IW Radio and was attended by hundreds of students from Island schools and the IW College, who spent the morning networking with almost 30 Island organisations.
Island businesses on hand
These included Hampshire & IW Police, Wightlink, IW Radio, IW Steam Railway, Creedence Training, IW Fire & Rescue and The IW Council.
This fast-paced event was organised so that each organisation’s representative spent five minutes at each table of 6 students answering the questions put to them about their career, and their job.
After lunch the audience were treated to a musical set from the part-local band “Empress“ who then spent some time taking questions from the floor about their path through the music business.
Inspiration for young people
This was followed by an inspirational and interactive talk from Nisha Pillai a newscaster from BBC World News.
Nisha emphasised the need to take chances and seize opportunities to progress not just in work but in life, a talk that was well received by the audience.
Overall many hundreds of local young people got a great insight into the world of work which may give them some guidance about their future career paths.
