You know how it is, sometimes you get a bit bored and decide to do a bit of baking to fill the time.
Well Garry Sexton, his brother, George and friends, Jordan Harper and Tom Smith, decided to do the same over the weekend – they just took it to the extreme.
1,000 fairy cakes
The four lads from Ryde decided – for no apparent reason – to bake 1,000 fairy cakes.
As you can see from the video below, it was quite a task.
Commence the bake-off
The whole process took around eight hours to complete.
They started at 3pm on Saturday and, as Garry could only fit around 50 cakes at a time in his oven, the last tray of cakes came out around 11pm.
500 cakes looking for a home
Garry has managed to shift 500 of the cakes to his family and friends, but still has plenty of bags left over.
These are not just plain fairy cakes either, there are five flavours to choose from, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, raisin and lemon.
Update: Helping the homeless
After reading the story, Trevor from the Pop-up Soup Kitchen got in touch to see whether he could take the cakes for the homeless.
He’s going over to Garry’s this morning (Monday) to pick up the bags.
