An article in the i100 earlier this week picked up on the fact that of the 69 MPs who publicly pledged to give the extra £7,000 MP’s pay rise away to good causes, only 25 had, to date, done so.
Back in December 2013, when the 11% pay rise was announced, OnTheWight asked Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Andrew Turner for his view and told us that when the pay rise came into force he would, “pass the increase I receive from such a large pay rise to good causes on the Island for the duration of the next Parliament”.

As Andrew Turner’s name was not on the i100 list of those who had already given their pay rise over to charity, we asked Mr Turner’s office when he was intending to do so and which of the Island charities would benefit.
A following statement to OnTheWight by his office,
“MP’s are often asked to complete questionnaires, for which they receive payment. For many years I have had a good causes account into which these funds are paid, it is used to support a wide variety of charities and good causes on the Island.
“The nett pay increase is paid into that account and used for the same purpose.”
