You might remember the reminder I put up on the blog back in October for the first Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year competition.
Being organised by the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group, the competition first came to our attention back in February. Over the spring and summer tons of enthusiatic photographers carried their cameras everywhere with them, hoping to catch that special shot.
The winners were announced last Saturday night at Quay Arts and prizes presented by Charles Chapman (IW Council Chairman) and Brian Dennis (County Press Editor).
First prize went to Kevin Mitchell for his amazing capture of a red kite at Appuldurcombe. Following him in second place was Stuart Dall with his long exposure shot of rocks and sea and a beautiful sunset/rise. Third place went to Dick Loaring for his intriguing shot of chards of light in a cave. I’ve no idea where this is, but definitely want to go there.
Well done to everyone who took part and especially the winners. Another comp is planned for next year, so watch this space for more info nearer the time.
An exhibition of all shortlisted shots will take place at Quay Arts next year, 13th February – 19th March.
