IW Road Runner Paul Cameron denied Easter double

As is customary, Ryde Harriers organised two open running races over Easter. First up was the Newport to Ryde event, raced over a seven mile multi-terrain course, on Saturday afternoon.

First man home was Islander Paul Cameron (pictured below) representing IW Road Runners in a time of 44minutes 8 seconds. Second home was Guy Landon (Team Bath AC) in 45:27. They are both in the veteran 40+ category.

Paul Cameron:

Jonathan Pim from London (no club) was third in 46:48. Next home were two Vet.40+ Islanders Steven Haggerty (Wight Tri) who clocked 48:02 and Stuart Backhouse (IW Road Runners) who recorded 48.47.

Men’s Team Award
Three Island clubs were 1-2-3 in the Men’s Team Award. IW Road Runners’ team (14pts.) was victorious followed by Wight Tri (29) and Ryde Harriers (44).

Polly Segar (IWRR) was the first lady home in 55:00. Two more Islanders followed in her wake. Mandy Womack (Ryde Harriers) was second in a time of 57:30, with Zoe Elliott (IWRR) third in 1:01:01, just failing to break one hour.

87 runners completed the course-64 men and 23 women.

Three Hills Course
Come Easter Monday morning West Wight Sports Centre welcomed over 100 athletes, who tackled the Three Hills Course over a distance of eight miles.

Malcolm Muir (Ilford AC) was the victor crossing the line in 49:03 and denying locally born Paul Cameron (IWRR) his ‘double’. Paul recorded 49:16.

Third place was taken by Mike Cummings of Hardley Runners (51:47) with Thomas Muddiman (Southampton AC) fourth in 53:03. Fifth man was Andrew MacArthur (IWRR) in 55:36.

Andrew’s club (IWRR) took the Men’s team title (16pts.) with their ‘B’ team second on 45points, one better than Ryde Harriers in third.

Two members of Ryde Harriers had notable success, with Peter Young first home in the Veteran 60+ category and Steve Lee first in the Vet.70+ class.

Ladies title
Samantha Amend (Belgrave Harriers) clocked an excellent 53:04 to win the ladies’ title. She was the fifth runner home overall. Second lady was Chaanah Patton (Hallamshire Harriers) in 57:59. Third was Rebecca Topham (Dursley & District AC) in 1:03:32.

Two Islands representing Wight Tri were placed fourth and fifth; Lucy Wells recorded 1:03:54 and Sarah Woods followed her home in 1:04:35.

Ryde Harriers took the Ladies Trophy with 26 points. Wight Tri (30) were runners up and IWRR third with 43points.

107 runners finished -72 men and 35 women.
