There are many young people across the Island who do an incredible job, day in day out, looking after family members who are dependant on them due to disability or illness.
These young people receive advice, support and training from the charity, IW Young Carers. The charity receives funding from the Isle of Wight council through a service contract.
Concern from service users
Those who benefit from the charity received a letter recently from the YMCA advising that the contract with the council was due to come to an end (30th June) and at the time of sending the letter they had not been advised whether the funding would continue.
VB received several concerned messages from users, so we got in touch with the council to find out whether the contract was due to be renewed.
Contract WILL be renewed
Thankfully we received good news, Hurrah!
Emma Corina, South East Hampshire and Isle of Wight Director for the YMCA said, ” We are delighted that our contract to deliver the Young Carers Project on the Isle of Wight has been extended and the YMCA are looking forward to continuing to deliver the valuable service”.
A spokesperson for the council confirmed, “we will be renewing the contract with the YMCA when the current contract comes to an end on 30 June.”
We expect they’ll be big sighs of relief all round.
