Following their last concert sell out, the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra will once again be taking to the stage of the Medina Theatre on the evening of January 25th.
The concert will start at 7.15pm and will end with Mussorgsky’s epic orchestral work “Pictures at an Exhibition”.
The Orchestra will also be performing Butterworth’s Rhapsody “A Shropshire lad”, a rather poignant work given that Butterworth was killed at a very young age in the trenches during the 1st World War, and 2014 is the centenary of that war.
Return to Island for singer
The concert will also feature a short but rarely performed song cycle by Sir William Walton called “A Song for the Lord Mayor’s Table” a setting of poems by poets such as Wordsworth and Blake. The soloist in this work is the soprano Jane Streeton.
Jane is no stranger to the Island having previously performed Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony and Ravel’s Scheherazade with the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra.
Jane also performs regularly with Surrey Opera having recently taken the lead roles in Madam Butterfly and Die Fledermaus. Other credits include performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Gala Orchestra.

The concert will be conducted and introduced by the Orchestra’s musical director Jonathan Butcher.
Due to the enviable reputation the Orchestra now has, the best tickets are already selling out, so early booking is advised.
