“A special night of Classics and Jazz”
A one off opportunity to see a once-only-line-up fusing stars of both the Classical and Jazz worlds of music takes place in St Catherine’s Church on Friday 14 July. It is sure to be a winner not to miss for enthusiasts and fans of both genres in a delightful setting, featuring many standards, some new harmonies and great unique arrangements.
The first set features a Classical String Quartet led by Richard Studt on his Dolphus Stradivarius violin with Roberto Sorrentino who is currently sub principal Cello with the Royal Philharmonic, Judith Brice on Viola and Brian Howells as second Violin. Then after the first interval, the Jazz Quintet strikes up led by Gary Plumley on Saxophone and Ian Henry on Piano with Malcolm Creese (of Acoustic Triangle fame) on Double Bass who was classically trained and moved into jazz, Ken Black on Drums and Sarah Bennett weaving her unique voice through the melodies and harmonies.
The third set is completely unique and all the arrangements are being written by Ian Henry, who is renowned not only for all his years of broadcasting and performing but also for being able to play any requests from the audience during his own concerts, such is the vast range of his knowledge and skill with music. He is the musician best placed in the prestigious line up to be able to fuse the classics with jazz standards and it is a very exciting project.
Tickets are £30 for this illustrious line up and include wine/light refreshments. Available now in advance from the Jazz Office / Box Office in Pier Street or by phone on 856206.
