From the Jazz office:
Sunday 27th August sees Ventnor Park come alive to the sound of jazz as the Earl Mountbatten Hospice presents an afternoon of Jazz in the Park.
This year we have been asked to programme the day’s entertainment, and joining veteran local favourites The Unity Stompers there will be an exciting line up of trad and swing artistes from the mainland and a promised large line up of Island musicians who will have completed a series of jazz improvisation workshops tutored by the great Gary Plumley.
This promises to be fun in the Bank Holiday sun with some stalls around the bandstand too, selling goods and refreshments. For those that want to dance, feel free. Timings are 12-8pm and as it is all going to be good, so we suggest bringing a picnic as well as partaking of snacks and the drinks stands and chill out around the bandstand in the pretty relaxing Ventnor park.
All proceeds from this most pleasant event will go towards patient care at the Hospice, and tickets are just £5 for the whole afternoon. These are available in advance exclusively from our office in Pier Street and should sell extremely quickly as last year was packed! Visit us at 6 Pier Street or phone 856206 / 856200.
Update: Check out James Evans Jazz as the final act – just being confirmed – will be the James Evans Incredible Four who are on their way to Bute Festival and are coming over to Ventnor first to deliver some of their own type of New Orleans trad jazz which is composed by James himself who, now only 35 years old has been described by Humphrey Lyttelton as a national treasure.
