Many congratulations to Jo Cowan, who we hear this afternoon, has just been appointed Director of Quay Arts Centre in Newport.
When former-Director, Mick Smith, left Quay Arts back in June, Jo who was Deputy Director at the time, stepped into his shoes and took hold of the reins.
She’s been doing a great job since then, which wasn’t surprising as she’d been with Quay for the last three years anyway.
One of the Quay Arts Trustees, Morris Barton, said, “There was an extremely high level of response from the national advertising. Jo was selected from a strong field and tough interview process and we are delighted she has accepted.”
Solid background
Jo brings just the right experience to the job, with not only a background in visual arts but also business management.
Jo said, “I am delighted to be taking the Director position and am looking forward to building on the strong reputation of Quay Arts. I am under no illusions as to the challenging times ahead. Although Quay Arts only receives a small amount of public funding, every penny goes
towards the exhibitions and programming. Inevitable cuts mean that we will have to find innovative ways of supporting ourselves as a charity and ensuring that we continue to deliver the high quality events, exhibitions, workshops and education programme that the Island has
come to expect.”
Best of luck Jo, you won’t need it, as you’ve proved
