Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Joe Owens, whose inquest starts in the Newport Courts today.
Readers may remember reading about the sad death of Joe who was found dead in Newport bus station in the early hours of the morning, nearly two years ago.
It was reported at the time that he’d visited St Mary’s Hospital the day before, complaining that his plaster cast was too tight and causing him pain. He was later mistaken by a security guard as being drunk.
“Talented journalist”
The former chair for the Scottish National Union of Journalists was described by a former colleague on All Media Scotland as a talented journalist, great trade unionist, socialist and leading activist. Joe also worked for a short period at the County Press.
It’s not clear why the investigation has taken so long, but we’re sure that all will become clear during the three day inquest which starts today and is being heard before a jury.
