Brading Roman Villa are looking to appoint four new Trustees to help move the Roman Villa forward as they continue to engage in their mission for the preservation of a historic site, alongside their commitment to education and the local community.
Who they are
Brading Roman Villa is a maritime courtyard villa on the Isle of Wight, with unique world-class mosaics. It is a Scheduled Monument that sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with views of chalk down lands and the sea.
The museum and grounds showcase the mosaics and archaeology and offer unique insights into Roman life in Britain. Their philosophy is to be welcoming, accessible, educational, and engaging.
Skills they are seeking
They are seeking candidates, who have skills and experience in one or more areas:
- Fund raising and sponsorship
- Retail and marketing
- Social media and IT
- Archaeology
- Heritage, education, and community engagement
- Financial experience, in particular in accountancy
- Experience as a legal practitioner relevant to Trusts
Time commitment
A Trustee is expected to:
- Attend six Board meetings (usually Monday afternoons from 1400 – 1600 hrs) including the Annual General Meeting in November
- To commit to participate in working groups relevant to their skills/expertise and to be proactive in their suggestions for the betterment of the Trust and its overall objectives regarding the Villa
- Take an active interest in the activities at the Villa and attend and support events
- Undertake any necessary Trustee training and safeguarding courses and qualifications
- Support the work generally of the staff team and volunteers
- The role is unremunerated for a term of three years with the possibility of reappointment for a further three year term
