Thanks to Helen for details of the Russia Ride Out. In her own words. Ed
On Tuesday 31st May, there will be a ‘Send off Gathering’ in St Thomas’ Square for ten bikers who are riding from the Isle of Wight to Moscow the following day, in aid of the Genesis project.
The Genesis project helps Russian state orphanage leavers and young people from very poor families to stay in education and get the qualifications and skills they need to find employment. The young people are given financial and emotional support. Without it many turn to crime and a life on the streets.
The Island-based charity Love Russia has run the Genesis (New Life) project for 11 years and has so far helped more than 600 young people integrate normally into society.
Join in the party
Come and join the party which starts at 7pm, in and around the Wheatsheaf Hotel. There will be live music in the hotel and a marching band and motor bike display open to the public for judging in St Thomas’ square.
Please show your support to the riders as they embark on this journey for a very worthwhile cause.
Blessing before 4,000 mile trip
On 1st June 2011, the bikers will receive a blessing from local churches and Island MP Andrew Turner will wave away the bikers on their 16 day, 4,000 mile, round trip.
The bikers are men and women ranging in age from 44 to 67 and they will ride through Holland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia into Russia where they will visit Moscow and St Petersburg. The return journey will be through Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Holland and UK.
Taking commemorative photos on the way
They will be stopping in Red Square, Moscow and Alexander Square, St Petersburg, traffic permitting, in order to take commemorative photographs and talk to any people who would like to know more about the project or the bikes and trikes.
The group will include Harley Davidson, Triumph, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and BMW motorbikes and trikes. They will also be accompanied by a support team in a Kia, Sorento.
