If you love harp then this intriguing mix of Afro-Celtic will pull all the right strings.
This double-bill featuring two foremost exponents of the harp family with Lily Neill on the Scottish/Irish harp and Kadialay Kouyate, from Senegal playing the kora (African harp).
Performing in the first half of the concert is award-winning, internationally renowned Lily Neill playing the Scottish/Irish harp.
Her music seamlessly weaves together Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian influences with classical elements.
Lily is originally from Washington, DC. She graduated from Limerick University in 2007 after obtaining her degree with first class honours in Irish Traditional Music.
She is now based at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Lily is returning to the Isle of Wight after her concert in St Mary’s Church, Brading last November which the Rev. David Abingdon justly described as ‘mesmerising’.
Performing after the interval is Kadialay Kouyate, the virtuoso kora player who has a long history of kora playing in his family in the tradition of the hereditary musicians, storytellers and artists of the West African Mandika Empire.
Kadialay’s kora playing and singing is simultaneously uplifting and relaxing, its purity is truly sustenance for the soul.
Many of you will remember him playing here in the summer of 2007 as a member of Nuru Kane’s exciting band Bayefall Gnawa.
We hope that these two first class musicians will be able to join together to play some pieces at the end of the concert.
