It was with great sadness that we learnt just over a week ago of the death of Kevin Mitchell.
Many of you will recognise Kevin’s name as someone who appeared in countless theatre productions that have taken place on the Wight over the past few years.
Others will remember him as the winner of the 2006 IW Photographer of the Year with his shot of a Red Kite at Appuldurcombe.
We first met Kevin on a Flickr Group meet-up organised by fellow Flickrite Auntie P. The meet-up was a chance for members of the Isle of Wight Flickr Group to get to know each other a bit better over lunch and then take a wander around the locale, obviously with cameras in hand.
Caring
Kevin immediately struck us as a kind, caring and interesting man and the strong network of friends that he’d built up since he moved to the Island in 2006 is testament to that.
He’d taken a lovely shot of our daughter on the meet-up which he later printed out and dropped round to us along with some DVDs that he thought she might enjoy. It was such a lovely thought and appreciated so much.
We were really pleased to hear that Kevin went on to the win 2006 Photographer of the Year as well as taking second place in the 2007 competition.
Our thoughts have been with Kevin’s partner, John and his family and friends since we heard the news.
Kevin’s funeral takes place today at St. Thomas’ Church, St. Thomas’ Square, Newport, at 2:30pm and will be followed by a Woodland burial at Fernhill in Wootton.
