The Department for Transport public consultation which should inform the future of Island Line trains comes to an end at 11.45pm tomorrow (Tuesday 9th Feb).
The franchise consultation covers the entire south western region. The DfT consultation document states,
The next operator will be required to work with the council, community and stakeholders to develop plans to turn the Island Line, which serves the Isle of Wight, into a separate and self-sustaining business during the life of the next franchise.
The Isle of Wight council have said Island Line should remain as “a fully integral part of the South Western rail franchise for the entire duration of its post-2017 period” and the Keep Island Line in Franchise Group have launched a petition calling for the same.
