5th July 2014 sees the last concert in the series given by the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are already on sale, and selling well, so early booking is advised as this will be the last chance to hear the Orchestra until November.
Prince Igor and Carnival in Paris
The concert will open with the Overture to Borodin’s opera, Prince Igor. Many will know Borodin’s music in its own right, but others will know it from the musical “Kismet”.
Following the Overture there will be a rare performance of an orchestral lollipop by the much forgotten Norwegian composer Svendsen, his “Carnival in Paris”. This work, written in 1872 is a colourful representation of the composer’s visit to Paris.
Clarinet Soloist Kimon Parry
Concluding the first half, the orchestra will welcome their soloist for the evening, Kimon Parry, as he performs the much loved Clarinet Concerto by the English composer Finzi.
Kimon is a fantastic young professional based in London. He graduated for the Royal Academy of Music in 2011 and has gone on to play with such orchestras as the Philharmonia and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Kimon is also a keen chamber musician.
Symphony No.2 by Vaughan Williams
Following the interval, the Orchestra’s Musical Director, Jonathan Butcher will put the orchestra through their paces with the Symphony No.2 by Vaughan Williams (A London Symphony).
The concert will take place at the Medina Theatre and will commence at 7.15pm. It is suitable for all the family, and if you have never attended one of these concerts, then now is the time to try – check out Jonathan Dodd’s reviews here OnTheWight, if you need convincing!
