Last weekend, Islanders made their way to Sandown airport to take part in the ‘End of the War Celebration’.
As well as the spectacle of many planes on display, they were hoping to get a glimpse in the skies above of the last flight of the Avro Vulcan B2 XH558. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it as far as Sandown.
Captured along the Solent
Instead, the flying legend made her last flight along the south coast before her retirement to Doncaster’s Robin Hood International Airport.
Luckily for us, John Woracker managed to capture some images of her before as she passed.
He says the crew included Bill Ramsey, Phill O’Dell and Phil Davies and added that the Vulcan circled around Shoreham – due to the horrific accident – and then passed along to Cowes and onto Bournemouth.
Videos
We’ve gathered together some videos of the Vulcan in flight over the last couple of months that, if you’re a fan of the Vulcan, we think you might like.
